PROJECT SUMMARY

The construction of a warehouse in which to store current and new equipment and which is also used as a storage facility and for the sorting, grading and stocking of recycled material.

BACKGROUND

Based between Kilkeel and Cranfield, Mark Skips is a Father and Son partnership which was established 14 years ago by the applicant’s father. It is a skip hire and recycling facility which is hoping to increase its scope and in turn, increase sales.

ACTIVITIES

Items funded:

• The erection of steel building
• Fixing of cladding to steel building

Project Objectives:

• To complete construction of one building by 31 March 2012
• Create employment for 1 FT employee by 31 March 2013 (end of year 1)
• To generate income of £115,203 by 31 March 2013 (end of year 1)
• To generate income of 123,844 by 31 March 2014 (end of year 2)

BENEFITS

It is a partnership and the only people working in the business are the applicant and his Father. Not only does the company provide a recycling and compacting facility but they also conduct ‘lifts’ for commercial operations in the area which has proven to be their unique selling point.

LESSONS

The business is now a well established in the Newry and Mourne District Council area and also carries out work across the Down District Council area.
