Expansion of pen cattery business
Ronald Dixon is a part time farmer who also works as a mechanical technician. Ronald and his wife are cat owners and when they were going on holiday, they had to travel over 20 miles to place their pets in suitable accommodation. Due to this lack of facilities, Ronald and his wife established a small 7 pen cattery by converting their garage in order to test the demand for this kind of service in the local area. Due to the demand they experienced, Ronald wanted to expand the business and operate a cattery fulltime.
Ronald secured funding under Axis 3 through North East Region for assistance with the construction of a purpose built cattery with 18 fully galvanised pens to house cats as well as car parking facilities. Each pen measures 6ft x 4ft x 3ft and has its own raised bed, food and water containers and toys. The cattery also includes a reception area as well as a kitchen and food preparation area.
Ronald's wife and daughter will be in control of the full operation of this business although he will help out when required and the existing 7 pens in the garage shall be retained for use when required.
