PROJECT SUMMARY

To improve and upgrade facilities in Clare Glen Caravan Park from 3 star to 4 star. This refurbishment will enable the applicant to grow the potential of the caravan park through appealing to a wider caravan market and increasing the occupancy rates on a yearly basis.

BACKGROUND

Clare Glen Caravan Park is owned by Armagh City and District Council. It opened in 2001 and is currently a 3 star rated caravan park. The site is open throughout the entire year for booking and is extremely popular with visitors and residents of the wider area. Clare Glen Caravan Park currently has 25 hard stands/tent sites. The site has a basic shower and toilet block.

ACTIVITIES

Project Objectives:

• Commence building/refurbishment work
• Carry out marketing and advertising of caravan site between January 2011 and March 2011
• Increase rating of facility to 4-star by March 2011
• Increase bookings by 12% by March 2011 (£13,101)
• Increase bookings by 10% by March 2012 (£14,808)
• Increase bookings by 8% by March 2013 (£16,042)

BENEFITS

It will encourage holiday makers extend their stay in the Armagh City and District Council area due to the upgrade in facilities, which will have a marked difference on the economic spend from tourists in the SOAR area.

Clare Glen offers a rural tourism product in the heart of Armagh countryside. Throughput figures at Clare Glen average 4937 and 1332 visitors per month respectively on the two entrance gates over a 12 month period.
