PROJECT SUMMARY

The purchase of equipment and materials to enhance facilities and safety of Loughhilly play park.

BACKGROUND

Loughgilly is a small rural community situated on the main Armagh / Newry road about half way between the two cities. The existing play park and community space contains dated, substandard play equipment, poor standard surfaces (tiles & tarmac) , insufficient drainage, inappropriate chain link fencing not fit for purpose.

ACTIVITIES

The project aims to:

• To upgrade existing play area in Partnership with Loughgilly Together Residents Association (LTRA) to offer inclusive and accessible play for everyone
• To create a community space / garden making the space more accessible and usable for the wider community
• Provide play equipment offering inclusive/accessible play for everyone i.e. play for all abilities
• Provide new safety fencing between play area and the very busy Armagh / Newry Road providing a safe secure environment for children and families to use for play picnics, fun days etc.

BENEFITS

Upgrade of play and community space to provide a safe secure environment for children and families inclusive and accessible for everyone.

This project will empower local community to take ownership of the space and to work with Armagh City and District Council to maintain thereafter

It will also augment well established working relationships between Armagh city and District Council and the residents association
