Rural Services Seminar Serves Up Debate

The Rural Network for Northern Ireland organised a successful seminar on the topic of Rural Services which took place in Kesh, Co. Fermanagh recently.

The seminar aimed to support those involved in the implementation of Measure 3.4: 'Basic Services for the economy and rural population' and to encourage a common understanding of the measure aims and objectives. It sought to propose solutions and share lessons of other Rural Development Programmes as a means of supporting greater clarity and understanding of the measure and the potential it offers in addressing the challenges of rural service delivery. A range of speakers were present including Michael McGuigan, DARD, Neville Armstrong, Kesh Enterprise Co. Ltd, Martin McDonald and Tracey McNally from the Rural Network. Also speaking at the half day seminar was Tracy Turner, who has been involved in the English Rural Services Network and who has completed a series of case studies on service delivery type projects across England. Feedback from the seminar was good and it is intended to follow this initial seminar with further study visits across Northern Ireland to witness different service delivery issues, solutions, projects and models.
