RDP investment of 2m in Lagan Rural Partnership area

30/08/2011

The LAG has approved 70 RDP projects with direct impacts to the local rural community it serves

Lagan Rural Partnership, which implements the ‘Rural Life’ measures of the Rural Development Programme in the rural areas of Lisburn City Council, Belfast City Council and Castlereagh Borough Council has approved 70 projects representing an investment in excess of £2 million to the local economy.

Grant payments of up to £50,000, per application, have been made to organisations from the local childcare, equestrian, rural tourism, manufacturing, marketing and engineering sectors.

One successful applicant Lynne McCabe, proprietor of Lisnacurran Country House, has received two grant allocations and encourages others to apply. The luxury self-catering and B&B she runs received £50,000 grant  to build a new state-of-the-art self- catering block aimed at increasing business visitors. A second application for the upgrading of her existing B&B facility to include a feature ‘orangery’ garden breakfast room secured a further grant of £14,750. This dual initiative will target both the leisure and business tourism markets, and will increase Lisnacurran’s accommodation options offering greater flexibility for business and leisure visitors wishing to access Lisburn as one of Northern Ireland’s major tourism, retail and business hubs.

“The funding was crucial for the business to proceed in the current economic climate” says Lyn, “We found both the process and support offered by Lagan Rural Partnership to be first class and we would strongly encourage other local rural businesses to apply”.
