Farm Modernisation Programme will open soon

13/09/2010

Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew MP, MLA today said that Tranche Two of the Farm Modernisation Programme will open later than anticipated.

This is due to a very substantive response that arrived towards the end of the EQIA consultation period and which raised a number of issues that need careful consideration and unfortunately this will take an additional period of time to address. Ms Gildernew said: "I had hoped to open the Programme in early September but this unfortunately will now be slightly delayed whilst we consider the responses submitted. Tackling inequality is extremely important, it is something to which I am committed and which we must get right. The task ahead is to complete the equality process by fully analysing the results of the formal consultation process, reaching decisions on how we should proceed and publishing a report on the outcomes for circulation to those who have taken the time to respond. "I have instructed staff in DARD to work as quickly as possible to deal with the issues raised in the consultation process. I know that the Programme is eagerly awaited by the farming community and I am anxious that they are able to take advantage of the £7million which is on offer. The Programme will open for business at the earliest possible date this autumn." Article taken from DARD website
